Private George H Wilson, aka George Frederick Blackmore age 33.
Born in 1883 at Harrow, Middlesex, his parents were John and Mary Blackmore. His father came from Teignmouth, Devon; his grandfather from Chudleigh. George appeared in Wormwood Scrubs register in 1904 as a habitual offender and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment; he was already using two other aliases.
He served in the 9th (Service) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, service number 14656, and was awarded the 1914-15 Star, War and Victory medals. George died of wounds at the 21st Field Ambulance Station, France on 2 July 1916. Buried in Morlancourt British Cemetery No. 1, Somme. Remembered on Seafront Memorial, Teignmouth, Devon. His war gratuity was sent to his father.
