Private Charles Rippon Trivett age 22.
Born at Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, in 1894, he was the eldest son of Fred, a joiner builder, and Ann Trivett.
In 1901 he was shown living at the house of his grandfather in Chapel-en-le-Frith, this was next door to his own family. The 1911 census showed him living with his family at Chapel-en-le-Frith where Charles was working as a railway clerk for the Great Central Railway.
In 1918 his parents were living at 8 Second Avenue, Teignmouth, where his medals, 14-15 Star, Victory and British, were sent to them.
Attesting with the army on 29 August 1914 he was posted to the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, service number 13708, on 31 August.
Charles was then posted to the British Expeditionary Force in Mediterranean on 21 August 1915, possibly serving at Gallipoli.
His record shows that he was evacuated in early 1916 from Imbros* and disembarked at Alexandria, Egypt on 3 February. He was admitted to 33rd Field Ambulance Station at Ballah on the Suez Canal on 13 April 1915 and discharged back to duty on 26 April.

Embarking at Alexandria on 5 August 1916 he landed in Marseilles, France on 12 August 1916 where Charles was posted to the 17th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters on 20 August.
Charles was reported missing during the battle of Ancre; he was later presumed killed in action on 3 September 1916.

*This island in the Mediterranean played an important role as a staging post for the allied Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, prior to and during the invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula. A field hospital, airfield, administrative and stores buildings were constructed on the island.
