Lance Corporal William Marks Stacey, aged 23, was the son of William Stacey and his wife Mary Ann Marks of 3, Fonthill Terrace, Shaldon, Teignmouth, Devon.
William was born 1892 in Okehampton, Devon but as his father was a station master they moved from place to place. The 1901 census shows them in Idminston, Wiltshire and in 1911 William Jnr is found working as a photographer's assistant in Bramshott, Hampshire.

He enlisted in London, joining the 4th Battalion of Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, service no 2200. He was killed in action on 16 June 1915 and is remembered with honour on Le Touret Memorial, Seine Maritime and Bramshott Memorial, Hampshire.
