Major William Augustus Cumming Fraser, Mentioned in Despatches, age 44. Born in Rangoon, India, on 4 January 1871 and baptised on 25 February, the son of Edward Seymour, merchant, and Margaret Ann Fraser. On the 1881 census he was living at a boarding school in St. Leonards, Hastings.

He married Evelyn Cecily Stone on the Isle of Wight in 1902.
1911 census showed him as a Captain with the Dorset Regiment and living with his wife and children at Bush House, Dorchester. His widow later lived at Llanstephen, Teignmouth.
He was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to 21st Hussars in 1894. William served in India and took part in operations on the North West Frontier, later he served in the South African wars from 1899 to 1902.
William was serving with 1st Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment during WW1 in Flanders, but was attached to 2nd Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment in May 1915. He died of heatstroke in Macedonia whilst on duty on 14 June 1915. Buried in Basra War Cemetery, Iraq.
Grave Inscription reads: “Gone but not forgotten”.
