Gunner William Edward Morrish age 19.
Born in Teignmouth in1898, baptised at St. Michael’s Church on 15 May, the youngest son of Frederick William, a gardener, and Ellen Morrish of 1 Vine Cottages.
The 1901 census shows the family still living at this address, but in 1911 they are living at Woodland’s Lodge.
Prior to joining the army, William worked for Mr W A Welch of Bank Street.

He enlisted in Newton Abbot and was serving in Flanders with "B" Battery, 58th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, service number 183648, when his parents, now living at Lower Brimley, were notified that he was severely wounded in his thigh and abdomen.
He died of his wounds in a Lincoln hospital on 19 October, 1917 and was brought back to be buried in Teignmouth Cemetery. Remembered on Seafront Memorial and St. Michael’s Church Memorial, Teignmouth, Devon.
“News received on Friday last Morrish succumbed to wounds. He had been brought from France to hospital in Lincoln and outcome looked hopeful, but he haemorrhaged and passed away. Previously at Mr A W Welch, house furnishers, Bank St. Brother of Mr J Morrish Churchwarden of St Peter's Church, Shaldon. Funeral took place last Wednesday at Teignmouth cemetery, the Reverend Williams of St Michael's officiating.”
