Captain Frederick Cecil Holman Piggott, M.R.C.S; B.A;M.D; BC Cantab. age 57.Born 21 June 1860 and baptised on 7 September in Richmond, Surrey, he was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Piggott (née Holman). He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor's School until 1876 when he was bound as an apprentice upholsterer to J H Gosling of Richmond. In 1885 he is registered on the Medical Register. On 25 April 1886 banns were called between Frederick and Ada Maria Lawrence at St. Michael's Church, Teignmouth and they were married at St Mary Abbott's Kensington on 26 May.

Frederick served as surgeon to the National Aid Society in the Sudan campaign of 1885, and acted as British consul in the Eastern Sudan for some of that year. He received the Egyptian medal, with a clasp for Suakin, and the Khedive's bronze star.

In 1901 he is living in Orchard Gardens with his wife and two daughters (they had three children) and he is working as a doctor.  In 1911 is working as a GP and the family are now living at ‘Teign Royd’, Teignmouth.    

He went into practice at Teignmouth, where he was honorary consulting physician to the Teignmouth Hospital, medical officer of health to the Teignmouth port and urban district, medical superintendent of Bitton Isolation Hospital, honorary medical referee for the Royal National Hospital for Consumption, Ventnor, and medical officer of the Post Office.   

In late 1915 he took a temporary commission as lieutenant in the R.A.M.C and was promoted to captain on completion of a year's service. He then served with the R.A.M.C during the war, but he was also attached to the Red Cross service and was acting as Resident Medical Officer at Teignmouth Hospital. He was actually performing his duties for the R.A.M.C. at Sutton Veney, Salisbury Plain, when he was found dead from a heart attack on 26 June 1917.
