Miss Gabrielle Scarborough of The Clintons, Teignmouth, Devon.

Gabrielle was born in the first quarter of 1984, in Colyton in Devon.

Her father was Elijah Impey Scarborough, a gentleman from Beer in Devon, and her mother was Margaret Blanche Scarborough (née Gilliard), from Hereford.

In 1891 she was living at Kingsholme, Colyford with her family and four servants (a governess, a cook, a housemaid and a nursemaid).

Gabrielle had a brother, Major Michael Claud Scarborough who was killed on the Somme in 1916 aged 33. She also had a sister, Marion Scarborough. Both sisters were engaged with VAD as nurses.

As a VAD nurse, during the First World War Gabrielle worked part-time alternate weeks of day and night duty doing ward work and nursing at the Teignmouth Auxiliary Military Hospital for a total of 6720 hours.

In some records her name is spelled Gabrielle Margaret Scarbrough.

Gabrielle died a spinster on 9 December, 1962 aged 78 in Fairlight Nursing Home, York Road, Torquay, Devon, England.

Her sister Marion who was also a spinster died nine months later.
