Awarded the British War Medal, the 1914-15 Star, and the Victory Medal

In 1891, the Kilpatrick family were living at Hamilton Drive, Govan, Patrick, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Father, Daniel K Kilpatrick, aged 43, born 1848 at Glasgow, and a Cotton Yarn Merchant. Mother, Elizabeth Kilpatrick, aged 42, born  1849 at Glasgow.

By 1901, the Kilpatrick family had moved to North Park Terrace, 6, Govan, Partick, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Daniel was now a Medical Student.

Daniel Ross Kilpatrick never used his first name Daniel and was known as Ross.

When WW1 arrived, Ross was in the RAMC attached to the 8th Battalion, 52 Lowland Division (Half the Division were caught in a terrible train crash on the way down from Scotland) but he had taken a different train.

He went to Gallipoli and was evacuated when the campaign ended but became very ill on the boat home.

It was an ex- Glasgow steamer and he knew the captain. When he reached Southampton he "took a cab" (his own words) to the School of tropical medicine in London where he knew several surgeons and was operated on.

He had been at the STM before going out to serve in Japan around 1895. He returned from there when the Russo Japanese war broke out. He ended the war in charge of a 1000 bed military hospital at Cambuslang, Glasgow as a Major.

Ross and Winifred were living at 2, Den Crescent, Teignmouth, Devon in 1920.

Winifred Mary Kilpatrick died in the 1st quarter of 1928 and is buried in plot Q92, Teignmouth Cemetery.

Visitor's Tragic Death
Taunton Woman's Fate at Teignmouth

Attracted by the actions of some women on the sea wall at Teignmouth on Saturday afternoon the driver of an express train, on arriving at Teignmouth Station, informed Mr A.E. Collins, stationmaster, that something unforeseen had happened.
Mr Collins telephoned to the Police and Constable Setter proceeded to Spray Point, midway between Hole Head Tunnel and Teignmouth. On the beach, he found the body of Miss Effie Laura Heard, which, it was alleged had been brought ashore from the water by a visitor.
Constable Setter applied artificial respiration and was later joined by Inspector Willcocks and Constable Phillips. Dr D. Ross Kilpatrick pronounced life extinct.
Miss Heard was staying with her sister at Powderham-Terrace, Teignmouth, for a holiday, having arrived from Osborne Grove, Taunton, on the previous Thursday. She left the house on Saturday, about noon, for a walk along the sea wall with the dog, and it is believed that whilst looking over from Spray Point to the rocks below, a distance of about 30 feet, she lost her balance and fell over.
The dog's lead was afterwards found on a seat at the spot. Miss Heard was about 40 years of age. The body was taken to the mortuary.
Miss Effie Laura Heard is buried in plot KK11 in Teignmouth Old Cemetery.

Daniel married Mary M Tozer in the 4th quarter of 1932 at Kensington, London.

Exciting rescue at Teignmouth.

Two young men rushed into the sea from East Cliff Promenade, Teignmouth, on Friday, and brought ashore Miss Dolly Jackson, aged 19, a domestic, whose widowed mother resides at Model Cottages, Diamond's lane, Teignmouth. She was fully clothed.
The attention of the rescuers was attracted by the cry of a woman: "There is someone drowning." After being brought ashore the girl was taken to the kitchen of East Cliff Hotel, where she received attention at the hands of Moss Morrish. Dr D. Ross Kilpatrick on being sent for advised her removal to Newton Abbot Infirmary, whither she was taken in the motor ambulance.

In the 1939 register, Ross and Mary were still living at 2, Den Crescent, Teignmouth. Also present were Herbert K R Kilpatrick, a Medical student, born on the 20th of July 1920, and Elizabeth M S Kilpatrick, at School, born on the 19th of March 1924. There is one other person present but not shown due to data protection.

School Trenches
Teignmouth Governors take no action

Brigadier J. Morrison A.R.P. organizer reported to Teignmouth Grammar School governors on Monday that he had received estimates for putting the trenches at the school in fit condition. It would cost a large sum of money and he queried whether they would be able to get sufficient corrugated iron to cover them. He has recommended that the trenches be filled up.
"We had better wait and see what the people the other end says,2 observed the Chairman (Dr D. Ross Kilpatrick).
Mr S. Silverston did not think the trenches should be filled up. They had been dug more than 12 months, and there was no sign of their caving in. About 100 children could sit down in the trenches and would be invisible, and it was a pity some use could not be made of them if necessary.
Mr Avant-Washington suggested leaving the trenches as they were for the present.
The subject then dropped.

 Kilpatrick Daniel Ross of the Old Cottage Teignmouth Devon died 26 April 1961 at Teignmouth Hospital Devon. Probate Exeter 27 June to Glyns Executor and Trustee Company Mary Monica Henrietta Kilpatrick widow and Herbert Kenneth Ross Kilpatrick medical practitioner.
