Brigadier General Charles Henry Davies CB CMG DSO, was born 20th November 1867 in  Dibrugarh, India.

Charles's mother was Sophia Davies née Humpreys, she was born in Cheadle, Staffordshire (1841-1892), her father George, was a Solicitor.

Charles's father was Major General Frederick John Davies who was born in Middlesex (1822-1901) his father Samuel, was an Indian Army Captain and surgeon.

Charles lived initially in India then in Teignmouth, Devon, where he was educated at the United Service College at Newton College, Newton Abbot, Devon.

At the time of the 1891 census, Charles and his family were living at Ashleigh, West Teignmouth. A career soldier, he served on the North-West Frontier throughout 1897 prior to serving in China in 1900, returning to the North-West Frontier by 1902, in the operations against the Darwesh Khel Waziris. He was slightly wounded and for his services was Mentioned in Despatches, the citation appearing in the London Gazette on 5^thJune 1903. He was also created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, the citation dated 3^rdJuly 1903.

He married Beatrice Mary Sparrow of Bitton, Teignmouth and Urmston Lodge near Manchester  on 5^th September 1894 at Teignmouth. They had a son, Frederick Arthur Davies in 1897 who was later to become a Second Lieutenant, Queen's Own Corps of Guides.

His service continued in the region throughout the early 1900’s and he was forty-seven when the Great War broke out.He served in the European theatre, Mesopotamia from 1914, suffering a further wounding and he was created a CMG in 1917 and a CB in 1919 later receiving the  Order of Stanislaus (2nd Class) with swords (Russia). He was also mentioned in Despatches twice more in 1919 forservices during the periods from 16th March 1918 to 18th September1918 and from the 19th September 1918 to the 31st January 1919.

• Joined the Army on 5^th February 1887, Second Lieutenant, Cheshire Regiment.
• 1^st September 1889 promoted to Lieutenant in the Indian Staff Corps
• 5^th February 1898 promoted to Captain in the Indian Army.
• 5^thFebruary 1905 promoted to Major
• 5^thFebruary 1913 promoted to Lieutenant Colonel Indian Army, 53^rd Sikhs
• 3^rd June 1916 given the Brevet of Colonel Indian Army, 53^rd Sikhs
• 6^th July 1916 promoted to Temporary Brigadier General on becoming Brigade Commander, 28th Infantry Brigade, Indian Expeditionary Force "D", Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force.

Charles died aged 87, on the 2nd January 1955, He is buried in St Neot, Cornwall
